The Ghana vs USA game has become the crucial factor that has put all the teams in Group G ( Group of Death) in position to advance in the next round of the FIFA 2014 World Cup.
With U.S securing a 3 points over Ghana, the odds of Ghana advancing looked to be slim late sunday night when U.S was ahead of Portugal 2-1. But late in the stoppage time, Portugal gave the go ahead goal to tie the game, and 20 seconds later the game was over.
As it stands now after two matches in the group
GERMANY 4pts with 4GD
USA 4pts with 1GD
Ghana 1pt with -1GD
PORTGAL 1pt with -4 Points.
Portugal seems to have the longest shot to advance to the next round. For them to advance, two things need to happen. Germany must beat United States, and depending on how many goals Germany beat U.S.
Portugal will need to score & beat Ghana as much goals to pass U.S. So for instance if Germany beat U.S 3-1. U.S will be down by -2 goal differential and Portugal is currently down -4 GD. Which means for them to advance, they will need to beat Ghana by 7 points.
Ghana on the other hand Ghana need two two things to happen. The first one being Germany beating the U.S. Currently Ghana is down -1 in goal differential. Ghana needs to beat Portugal by 2 or Germany win by 2 for Ghana to advance.
USA just need a draw or win. If U.S lose to Germany, in other to advance they may not lose by more than 2 goals and hope Ghana lose to Portugal or Ghana do not win by 2 points.
GERMANY basically controls their own destiny. They need a win or a tie, if somehow they lose to the United States. In other to advance, Portugal needs to beat Ghana, or and need Ghana to win by less than 4 goals.
