NFL 2014 Season Preview: A look at the AFC EAST

Most of the AFC East teams will be going to training camp in the coming weeks. In this segment of the season preview, I will be taking a look back into the previous season and how each team in the AFC EAST did against the spread.

Buffalo Bills

Home 6-2
Away 2-6
Total 8-8
The Bills team are a much improve team this season. Last season the games that they did not cover were games where they should have covered. The Bills are tough team to predict week and week out. When they play a home game, it is a must to have them covering at home especially against AFC teams because they always seem to cover those spreads. They may not win the game but they sure know how to cover spreads against AFC East.

Miami Dolphins

Home 5-3
Away 4-4
Total 9-7

As much as I will like to pick the Dolphins in certain situations, last season I was able to correctly pick the games where Dolphins were not the favorite and they cover the spread easily. But they can also be similar to the Bills as they are least likely to cover the spread on the road. When they are on the road, do not trust them.

New York Jets

Home 6-2
Away 3-4-1
Total 9-6-1

The New York Jets are the step child of this division, they do well under situation where you know they are not going to cover the spread. At home they are guaranteed to cover the spread, but not guaranteed to win.

New England Patriots

Home 6-2
Away 2-6
Total 8-8

Arguably, the best team in the division and will likely win the division. Consider the Patriots covering the Spread against all the division teams.
Again another team in the division that is not good at covering away games.

Over all this division is not a very sexy division to cover the spread. If Buffalo, Miami, New England and New York are on the road, chances are they will not cover the spread as they are not a good road teams. They all feed off their fans and most of their cover comes from division rivalry games at home. The key in picking the team to cover the spread in the AFC East to consider the Home/Away situation. Once the first two regular season game is played, I will be giving my predictions based on my formula I use to predict the games.
