For a diehard fan of a professional franchise he/she will root for the team whether the team is bad or good. A diehard fan relationship to a team is like a marriage "for better or worse".
As a diehard fan, I look at bandwagons as gold diggers, they only show up when you have something.
Currently the Celtics are in a restructuring mode, I barely see any support from the team. But when the celtics are back in the playoffs, all the sudden you see the bandwagons show up. It is pretty much the same for the Redsox, the Bruins and the Patriots.
I personally did not see how many bandwagons are in Boston until 2012 season for the Redsox, they had a bad season and half of the fans that I know whether from school, or in New England gave up on the team, and ta-dah a year later they won the World Series.
It has been four years since Lebron made the decision to bring his talent to South Beach. In a promising manner, he said he will be not 1, 2, 3,4,5 but 6 championship to Miami. But four years later after winning 2 rings and losing two. LeBron has opt out of his contract, to become a free agent in 2014.
The Miami Heat saw an increase of bandwagon fans when LeBron left Cleveland to Miami. What ever team LeBron goes again will be the #1 bandwagon fans in the NBA.
Which lead me to this question? What fan are you? There are bandwagon, occassional, diehard fans.
Bandwagon fans come in as a result of two things 1. The fan either follows one player from one team to the other or 2. The team the bandwagon is following is the most popular team in the league.
One of my biggest pet peeve as a diehard fan of a team when an individual has no relation to a particular city and becomes a fan of that team.
Here are my violation as a Sport fan.

PERSON A: Fan of Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, L.A Lakers, Detriot Redwings
(Seriously where did they all come from, I can understand if you live in Greenland or Iceland and you picked these teams.
My Respect Level: Is Low
PERSON B: Fan of Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, New York Rangers, and San Antonio Spurs
( I can give you a little slack because you a constant, you like New York and Texas team but although Why not the Mavericks instead of Spurs but I will still give you a little of respect for being rational. Maybe your dad is from Texas and your mother is from New York)
My Respect Level: Is Medium
PERSON C: Fan of New York Yankees, New York Giants, New York Knicks, New York Islanders.
My Respect Level: Is HIGH because you are 4 for 4.
